About the Position

The Contrast Engineering team is growing leaps and bounds. We've created an opportunity for a team of mainly internally focused full stack developers providing application development support to our language agent teams. As a member of this team, you will get the opportunity and exposure to work across our five current languages of Java, .Net, NodeJS, Python and Ruby. As new languages are brought into our eco-system, you will evaluate and develop within those languages as well. This team is tasked with the unique opportunity to build engaging and demonstrable applications that are both vulnerable and non-vulnerable, but also support multiple frameworks and runtimes within each language. Developers on this team will receive exposure to a foundation of advanced application security topics working side by side with our software agent and security research teams. Many of the applications you build will be made accessible in our public GitHub repository and will be shared with our community of practice. The goal of this team is to build and curate functional applications within our compatibility matrix of web applications we support for each language. The team will build many combinations of applications based on framework, runtime, data store (relational or NoSQL). These applications will be vulnerable and non-vulnerable. They will be used for acceptance testing our software agents. Ultimately, this team will provide support to our product to ensure the greatest amount of accuracy in our findings, reliability in service with a running agent and ease of use of our integrations and capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Build, ship, curate, and iterate purposely vulnerable and non-vulnerable full stack web applications in as many as five existing languages (Java, .Net, NodeJS, Python and Ruby)
• Research and learn various web application frameworks supported in each language
• Design and implement robust, automated accepted tests within our CI toolchain
• Work side by side with our software agent teams to improve accuracy, reliability and resilience of our language-based agents
• Mentor under our security research team to learn about purposely exposed attack surfaces and software anti-patterns that leave code vulnerable

About the Position

Our Application Security Research team is hyper-focused on continuous vulnerability and threat research affecting the world's software ecosystem. He or she will be responsible for maintaining the fidelity of research and findings in our real-time security intelligence platform. Most vulnerability findings will be based on third-party code in the Open Source community. However, additional efforts will be driven from findings in the Contrast platform. It will present an opportunity as a security researcher to contribute original research. The Application Security Researcher is responsible for supporting and contributing to Contrast’s growing and enhancing original security research efforts relevant to the development communities associated with Contrast Assess and Protect platforms. Original research will be published in company blogs, papers and presentations.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Conduct basic and applied research on important and challenging problems in application security

The role:

What you will work on

Our mission is to remove friction for IoT fleet owners (for example, people that need to build and monitor multiple digital advertising screens all over the city). Therefore building and maintaining an intuitive and functional User Experience is key to everything we do. IoT is technically complex and chaotic at times, but we find beauty in bringing order to chaos and telling stories through visuals and interactions to enable our users to succeed with balena.

As a Visual Designer, you will work at the intersection of branding, visual identity, and UI/UX. You will continually research user needs, test ideas, sketch, seek feedback, develop solutions that will help you refine your designs, and develop a design system. You will work closely with engineering, product, and outreach teams to evolve our design efforts and ensure every new launch and marketing initiative is infused with the balena brand language.

Responsibilities

• Leverage user feedback and data to identify friction points and engagement drivers, prototype solutions, and iterate on designs
• Design landing pages, create visuals and digital assets, and craft marketing materials
• Convert UX wireframes to high-fidelity UIs, bridging the gap between UX design and front-end development
• Maintain a consistent voice, look, and feel of UI components across all products
• Produce and update style guides and brand guidelines
• Help brainstorm and create design systems that can be implemented automatically
• Be a source of design advice for peers, sharing your expertise and educating others

Requirements

• Background in interaction and visual design – branding, identity, UX, UI (or strong willingness to dive deep into these)
• Experience producing high-quality designs, illustrations, wireframes, prototypes, or code
• Understanding and application of UX principles and user-centric design practices
• Ability to manage ambiguity, make critical trade-off decisions, and push projects to completion
• Strong product intuition and a passion for solving problems from first-principles
• Continuous improvement mindset, and desire to make self and others more effective
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and fluency in English

Bonus points

• Familiarity with technologies and tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Zeplin, Flinto, and Github
• Working knowledge of HTML and CSS

What you'll be doing...
As a multi-skilled SDET, you'll play a key role in the Java team. Your role will encompass both testing and development tasks, so you'll need to be versatile and able to switch tasks depending on project needs. Testing software products for overall stability and reliability, and applying latest tools and technologies to ensure progress and make QA tasks smoother and more efficient, will fall under your responsibility.

Some of your tasks will include:

• Defining automatic tests for the whole environment
• Implementing or identifying relevant test cases (acceptance, integration, etc.)
• Creating/reusing tools and scripts to increase efficiency in times of execution
• Sharing the automation sets and tools with the rest of the development team
• Analyzing test results, preparing summary reports, and providing fixes/improvements to the team based on that feedback
• Carrying out both testing tasks and development tasks
• Collaborating in the preparation for the sprint review/demo
• Giving input on process improvements that can improve efficiency and bug prevention
• Sharing the testing effort with other colleagues (other QA or members of the Dev team)

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
• 5 years' experience testing and working with Java8+
• Strong knowledge and understanding of software QA methodologies, tools and processes
• Ability to communicate and coordinate with key stakeholders (Product Owners, Project Managers, Developers)

Work Responsibilities

• As a QA/Test Engineer, you will be part of the process of developing new features and improving current features of the Mercari app from the customers’ point of view.

• Working in a fast-paced, quality-focused environment, you will be involved in quality-assurance related activities throughout the entire development process, from planning to final release, while understanding the overall development process.

Bold Challenges

• In this position, you will be responsible for quality assurance for Mercari, a marketplace app with 18 million monthly active users.

• You will be responsible not only for testing for quality assurance, but also various kinds of tasks such as understanding customer issues, developing processes, analyzing data, and creating quality guidelines in order to assure quality in the overall development process.

• Apart from that, this position will allow you to think about quality from the customer’s point of view and how to assure quality from scratch.

Required Experience

• 3 years+ experience testing smartphone apps and web systems (designing/implementing tests, test management, optimizing tests)

• 3+ years experience creating/coding automated testing (ex: Espresso, XCUITest, PlayWright)

• Ability to communicate with PMs/engineers in development teams and members in QA teams to solve issues

• Experience in solving problems and improving processes in your team

Preferred Experience

• QA experience in working within an Agile Scrum based development process

• Experience in development web / smartphone apps

• Selection of test tools or developing them yourself

• Experience in performance testing, security testing, and internationalization testing

• Software development experience in a CI/CD environment
