If you’re working on the front-end you’ll be developing applications and reusable components using a combination of Ruby on Rails and React. You’ll get to build our external and internal UIs, so this is an exciting opportunity to deliver far reaching, intuitive and accessible front end systems. Ruby experience isn’t critical, if you’ve worked with an MVC framework, create single page Javascript apps or you’re familiar with the GDS UI guidelines you’ll fit right in.

For our core business services, you’ll be working with Java and SpringBoot alongside tools like OpenAPI. You don’t need to be a specialist in Java but you will need a passion for creating clean, maintainable and secure applications using an object-oriented language.

As part of our ongoing mission to support and develop all staff within the DVLA, you will be given a high spec Macbook and we will help you to achieve certification in areas such as AWS and Java, as well as giving you the freedom and support necessary to perform in your role and continuously develop your skill set

Some of the projects you could be working on include:
• New driver and vehicle services, allowing citizens to manage their licences and vehicles
• The DVLA digital payment service that helps us collect around 6 billion pounds a year
• The Tachograph services used to register and maintain data on all the UKs professional drivers
• API’s that allow car retailers to issue registration numbers and capture the registration of all new vehicle sales in the UK.

About you

You will be experienced working as a software engineer across multiple teams and projects, developing software using a variety of modern technologies and tools. A passion for Java, font-end development, security or serverless technology. You will need to be comfortable in using modern CI/CD tooling with an understanding of languages such as Java, Ruby, C#, HTML, Python or similar. The role: Senior Software Engineer PHP

Senior Software Engineers play a key role in our product engineering teams. You’ll be responsible for helping design, develop and maintain our communication products and related services. This will enable our customers to send out millions of SMS messages per day; place voice calls via our REST API; gain real-time insights using our Dashboard; and receive their invoices on time, to be automatically paid via direct debit or credit card. 

Our product engineering teams have the freedom and authority to create impactful products to empower both our internal and external customers. We use an agile development methodology, meaning we deploy code multiple times per day while ensuring our applications are rigorously tested and statically analyzed.

• Help design and build a performant, scalable and fault-tolerant communication platform.

The role: Infrastructure Engineer

You will be a key part of the Engineering team, working closely with the wider team to design and implement highly available and scalable solutions, whilst also ensuring sufficient monitoring and alerting solutions are implemented and maintained.

As a DevOps Engineer on our team, you will help build, maintain and scale our internal infrastructure as well as define how our developers and enterprises deploy our platform. As an influencer of our DevOps practices, you will continue to automate all aspects of our software deployment and product delivery processes. An ideal candidate will have experience transitioning data science research into production-grade distributed systems.
