About the team
The Cloud Billing team’s mission is to provide a simple, transparent and flexible SaaS billing experience based on the consumption of cloud resources and other Elastic services. The Elastic Cloud service is operated at global scale - across all top 3 public cloud providers, in 50 plus regions across the world, hosting mission critical workloads for customers in every industry. The Billing team sits at the heart of Elastic’s business strategy, enabling the company to grow by developing capabilities like usage-based metering, consumption billing and marketplace integrations.
Our team builds data pipelines that collect millions of usage data points from distributed data sources across AWS, GCP and Azure. We then transport them reliably and accurately to Elasticsearch and monetize it to produce billing data.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced software developer to help us make an immediate impact to our monetization strategy. You will work along side a distributed team to craft billing models that drives the growth of our Cloud products. You will learn how to meter and bill distributed applications using the Elastic Stack. This role will require collaboration with product managers, design team and other developers to achieve our goals.
Some of the things you'll work on
- Implement features and execute on the roadmap for the Billing area of Cloud. This includes working on the parts of the codebase that brings in monthly subscription revenue from thousands of Elasticsearch Service users.
- Build scalable solutions and expose them via elegant REST APIs to deliver the best payments experience for the Elasticsearch Service.
- Add features to the backend services in Python that uses Elasticsearch
- Collaborate with other teams in Cloud Infrastructure to develop scalable, automated solutions that drive our SaaS business
- Be hands-on with the codebase. Review work done by your peers, and provide constructive feedback.
- Work on crafting a stable, scalable and reliable ingestion pipeline built using Elastic products to harvest usage data from multiple products.
- Use Elasticsearch and Kibana to aggregate data for billing and usage reporting purposes
- Grow and share your interest in technical outreach (blog posts, tech papers, conference speaking, etc.)
What you will bring along

- 5+ years experience as a software engineer, with a track record of delivering high-quality code.
- Must have experience with Python as a programming language
- Experience using Elasticsearch or Postgres in your application as a data store and analytics engine.
- Experience or interest in working on SaaS billing or metering systems is a huge plus
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills

About The Role
As a Principal Software Engineer on our Stack and Solutions team for Cloud, you will be responsible for technical design and work in key functional areas of Elastic’s Cloud offerings. You will participate in coding, crafting solutions, debugging complex failure scenarios, and prioritizing bug fixes and features. You’ll analyze the current system, its strength and limitations. You will have a high level of ownership of our roadmap and project planning efforts.

- Combine Elastic’s products (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, Machine Learning, APM) with cloud management technologies to create reliable and scalable Cloud solutions for customers. Work on auto scaling and other key capabilities.
- Work on a global scale, with all the major Cloud hosting providers: AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.
- Work with a team to help build scalable solutions to deliver the best customer experience
- Contribute to technical plans and direction within Cloud and across other product teams in Elastic
- Be part of a distributed team of engineers from all across the globe
- Collaborate with other teams within Elastic. Examples include helping Support with difficult cases or consulting the Elastic Stack engineers with designing new features in a Cloud-compatible way.
What you will bring along
- 7+ years of experience as a software engineer, with a track record of delivering high-quality code
- Ability to communicate well with individuals and groups to accomplish a common set of goals
- Previous experience providing mentorship and coaching for a group of senior software engineers
- Technical depth in one or more technologies relevant for SaaS (orchestration, networking, containers, etc.)
- In-depth experience with Java, Scala, or Go

Our team creates software that collects usage data from distributed data sources, transports them reliably and accurately using data pipelines, monetizes it to produce billing data. Cloud is the fastest growing product in Elastic and the Billing team is the strategic area for supporting that growth.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced UI developer to help us make an immediate impact to our monetization strategy. You will lead the design and presentation of billing artifacts that enables transparency to our users. As the primary front end developer in the team you will have the opportunity to break ground on new features, establish coding standards and help the team to grow as we scale. This role will require collaboration with product managers, design team and other UI developers to achieve our goals.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Make it easy for customers to consume billing artifacts like usage reports, invoices and cost analysis
- Collaborate with backend engineers to create code that integrates with real-time data streams and API endpoints
- Partner with Data Analysts, Product Managers and Designers to provide billing transparency to our users
- Write and maintain high-quality Typescript and JavaScript code.
- Build data visualisations and UI workflows that serve our users across multiple solutions.
- Participate in code reviews for your team and other teams
- Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes
