Your Job
We are looking for a Platform Engineer specializing in Observability to join our product development team, and play an integral role in the development and operation of our managed Kubernetes offering. You will build and develop observability into the platform, using Prometheus, Cortex, Thanos, and Kubernetes Operators, among others, as well as helping customers use these technologies.
Giant Swarm is a fast-growing open-source infrastructure management platform used by modern enterprises. Our vision is to empower developers around the world to ship great products.
-
You will be responsible for architecting and building distributed monitoring systems, as part of our managed Kubernetes offering.
-
You will help customers implement observability solutions.
-
You will use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools from across the open-source community, including Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Jaeger, Cortex, Thanos, and Linkerd2.
-
You take part in oncall, as part of our ‘you build it, you run it’ philosophy. This includes improving operations, such as adding metrics or building dashboards.
Requirements
-
You are an experienced Linux user. Prometheus, Loki, and Grafana are familiar to you.
-
You have experience with Go and at least one other programming language, and a strong architectural background.
-
You have experience working with Kubernetes, specifically building operators.
-
You have worked on the observability of container infrastructures before.
-
You are used to deploying to production multiple times a day, and love to automate all the things.
-
You are comfortable building and working with distributed systems - you prefer to build your applications as multiple services instead of a single monolith.
-
We - and our customers - are currently distributed (mostly) around Europe. Your main timezone should be UTC +/- 2.
-
We are very active in the Cloud Native / Kubernetes space. If you are as well - or you just love giving talks - it will be a perfect addition.
About us
Every new team member changes the team. We love to learn from each other and we are looking for people who know things we don’t.
-
Becoming part of Giant Swarm means that, by extension, you also become part of the Cloud Native community. We actively contribute to upstream projects and our quarterly hackathons will give you space to work on out-of-the-box projects. Occasionally, when we, as a team, want to fully focus on one project, we scratch all meetings and routines for a certain time to better focus during our hive-sprints.
-
Continuous learning is important to us - we foster this through bi-yearly personal development talks, a budget for training/certifications/coaching as well as regular feedback talks and workshops. Our teams are cross- functional and collaboration is key.
-
Nothing crazy, but useful Basics: We don't count holidays but set a minimum number; You choose your own hard- and software; As a company that has almost, if not more, kids than employees, family-friendliness is crucial to us and paid parental leave is a no-brainer; We pay monthly perks that cover your costs for working remotely; We meet twice a year as an entire company and (if possible) see conferences as an important place to catch up with team members; We aim to be fully transparent (finance, salaries) unless it hurts people and trust you, based on this to make the best decisions
We failed in exactly describing our way to approach important company elements that can be described with ‘buzzwords’ such as agile mindset, cross-functional teams, self-organization, value of the individual or trust & teamwork. However, we truly care about them, we live them and we constantly iterate on them. Some snippets about how we do this are posted in our blog but by far not all of them.
Important note: We are not hiring job descriptions. We hire humans. :) We welcome applications from everybody, regardless ethnic or national origin, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation or age.
Job Benefits:
- unlimited holidays
- fair and transparent open salaries
- familiy friendlyness is a must
- choose the time you want to work
- choose the devices you want to work with
- remote work possible

-
You have good coding skills (preferably Go, but Python or similar is fine as well)
-
You have experience with maintaining infrastructure with code and you know the pros and cons of various automation tools.
-
You automate all things by writing code. Using Bash scripts makes you sad :)

In this role, you would join our security team and work on integrating open-source security tools into our managed security service, hardening our Kubernetes clusters, and enabling customers and other teams to be secure by default.

-
You will be responsible for architecting and building distributed systems, as part of our managed Kubernetes offering.

You will use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools from across the open-source community, including Kubernetes, Falco, Starboard, Trivy, Harbor, Kyverno, Prometheus, and Flatcar Linux.
-
You take part in oncall, as part of our ‘you build it, you run it’ philosophy. This includes improving operations, such as adding metrics, or building dashboards.
Requirements
-
You have experience with Go and at least one other programming language, and a strong architectural background.
-
You have worked extensively with Kubernetes.
-
You are an experienced Linux user.
-
You are used to deploying to production multiple times a day, and love to automate all the things.
-
You are comfortable building and working with distributed systems - you prefer to build your applications as multiple services instead of a single monolith.
-
We offer flexible working hours, but we (and our customers) are currently mostly distributed around Europe. You will need to align parts of your day to communicate with them, so ideally your main time zone is UTC +/- 2 hours or US/Canada Eastern Standard Time.
-
We are very active in the Cloud Native / Kubernetes space. If you are as well - or you just love giving talks - it will be a perfect addition.
-
Bonus points if you have meaningful experience with security tooling in Kubernetes, have ever maintained an open-source security project, are/were an incident responder, or have worked in a similar relevant blue team role.

THE BASICS
Giant Swarm is a highly valued and respected player in the cloud-native space. By covering technology, operations, and evolution of cloud-native infrastructure around Kubernetes, companies like adidas, Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, and Shutterstock can move faster on their DevOps journey and accelerate their business growth through rapid software innovation. By offering a high-end service, customers are extremely happy and use us across more and more projects within their companies, fuelling our organic growth.
As our offering is rooted in a highly complex technical area, we frequently interact and build relationships with technical people in the sales process. This starts from creating awareness, through educating various stakeholders to ensuring they understand the value and build trust in our company and offering. For this vital role, we are looking for an outgoing engineer, who loves guiding clients through highly complex and challenging decisions.
YOUR JOB
- You pick up current trends, research them, and frequently communicate them at conferences, meetups, webinars, on social media, and internally.
- You give technical presentations to potential customers, demos, and technical recommendations, and guide them along the decision process.
- You provide engineering and cloud-native expertise to the entire demand generation and sales team.
- You will liaise with internal account and platform engineering teams to raise awareness about customer requests, discuss answers with customers and constantly improve communicating the value the teams provide.
- You will use your creativity to highlight and constantly evolve how we demonstrate what makes us special and what impact it has on our customers.
REQUIREMENTS
- You are an engineer by heart who is curious, loves to learn, and is open to sharing knowledge and experience with the world.
- You have worked either as a sales engineer or technical consultant for the last 3+ years or as a software/infrastructure engineer and would like to move into a highly interactive, outside-facing role.
- You are great at explaining complex technical concepts and finding creative analogies to get a point across.
- Ideally, you already have and love to give talks at conferences, meetups, or at customer sites - either remotely or on-site.
- You’re experienced in working remotely and self-organization is a no-brainer.
- We mainly target Central Europe and although our customer base is not limited to this area, your native German skills will be important.
Why you will like working with us
- Everyone is going cloud-native - eventually. We are seeing a steady increase in demand, the pandemic has accelerated adoption, Kubernetes has become the standard - and you will be right in the middle of it.
- Our customers are extremely happy with us and would recommend us anytime. Join our monthly virtual customer evenings where everyone comes together and shares their experiences - and people often stay until after midnight.
- We are a fully remote company and you are fully integrated - no matter where you live.
- A startup attitude but profitable since 2017 and predominantly owned by founders and employees - so we control our own destiny.
- We value when things get done and not how much time you work. “Away From Keyboard” is all we need to know.
- Our onsites twice a year are legendary.
- Fully transparent with no hierarchies - we share all numbers, all decisions and encourage participation on every level.
- We love to learn - the more experience you have the better - but we hire for attitude more than for skills.

WE WANT TO find a Product Owner (m/f/d) with experience in the tech industry to help develop our Kubernetes-as-a-Service product. We have multiple teams working on AWS, Azure, VMware, and bare-metal Kubernetes solutions. The product is open-source and we are a diverse, remote (since 2014) and experienced team, that is growing and spread across Europe - with a headquarters in Cologne
SO THAT we can empower developers around the world to ship great products.
- tl;dr: You are responsible for the success of our product ;) But of course, you are not alone. We currently have 2 PO’s and 3 Architects and all team members are engaged in the product process.
- You become the owner of the product vision for your teams.
- You help your team maximize the impact of their work. Many product ideas start as technical solutions. You are persistent and creative in figuring out the business and user problems these ideas can solve. You manage the Product Backlog of your team(s) and write user stories.
- You help your team avoid overwork. There is always more stuff to do than time to do them with. You and your team have the freedom to decide what is most important and to do only that. You lead this prioritization.
- You enable other parts of the company to understand your team's work and its value. You translate between engineers, other POs, and sales and marketing.
- Our customers love to work with us and see us as their extended team. You collaborate with them to build products they will use and love.
- You ensure that current and prospective customers are informed about the cool stuff we are building (Documentation, blog posts, and other media such as speaking if that’s something you are interested in.).
- You can choose to participate in cross-cutting groups throughout the company to drive topics that you are passionate about (eg. culture, customer happiness, security, etc.).
REQUIREMENTS
- You have a strong, at least 5-year background being a Technical Product Owner in a tech-driven environment (best case, you know stuff about enterprise software, cloud, open-source, and distributed systems).
- You don’t need to be a coder, but a basic knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure and a bit of programming experience will help you to understand what we and our customers are doing.
- Ideally, you have already gained work experience in the larger Kubernetes ecosystem.
- You find the right tone for all stakeholders. Especially with our cross-functional engineering teams - you are available and engaged.
- You can deal with being empowered to make decisions.
- You are familiar with agile methodologies but work with your team to figure out and iterate on the processes that work for your unique needs.
- You are happy to work in a fast-changing environment and adapt the way you work according to the current status of the company. We are operating in the evolving container ecosystem; the whole market is highly volatile.
- You have excellent English skills and you are based somewhere in Europe, as most of your team members are in this timezone as well.
Pro tips for anyone who wants to apply at Giant Swarm from our team: Have and articulate (1) a clear view of what your role is, and (2) a framework/approach for how you would apply that to Giant Swarm's context (not just what you did in your last company, but how you would adapt that to Giant Swarm's context).

THE BASICS
AS A... growing open-source infrastructure management platform used by modern enterprises.WE WANT TO find a Product Owner with experience in the tech industry to help develop our Kubernetes-as-a-Service product. We have multiple teams working on AWS, Azure, Vmware, and bare-metal Kubernetes solutions. The product is open-source and we are a diverse, remote (since 2014) and experienced team, that is growing and spread across Europe - with a headquarters in Cologne.
SO THAT we can empower developers around the world to ship great products.
YOUR JOB
- You can choose to participate in cross-cutting groups throughout the company to drive topics that you are passionate about (eg. culture, customer happiness, security etc).
REQUIREMENTS
- You have a strong, at least 5 year background being a Technical Product Owner in a tech driven environment (best case, you know stuff about enterprise software, cloud, open source and distributed systems).
Especially with our cross functional engineering teams - you are available and engaged.
- You can deal with being empowered to make decisions.
- You are familiar with agile methodologies, but work with your team to figure out and iterate on the processes that work for your unique needs.
- You are happy to work in a fast changing environment and adapt the way you work according to the current status of the company.
(Chiara Cokieng, PO)

We are looking for a Frontend Engineer
to play a leading role in the development of our front end (written in React) and our other front end interfaces written in Go. You will not only contribute maintainable code that meets best practices and high standards but also work towards enabling all of our engineers to contribute confidently towards evolving our interfaces into the most delightful way to manage Kubernetes clusters.
Giant Swarm is a fast-growing open-source infrastructure management platform used by modern enterprises. Our vision is to empower developers around the world to ship great products.
We're a distributed, diverse, and growing team spread across the whole world. The company is based in Cologne, Germany, where we have a small office in a coworking space. However, only a few people work there and visitors are always welcome (in pre-corona times :( and hopefully soon again). All workflows are created to function remotely - but of course, if you want to visit Cologne, you are more than welcome!
While we are remote-first, we appreciate quality time with our co-workers, so we meet in person twice a year to work and have fun together.
YOUR JOB
- You will join us in making Kubernetes and our interfaces more understandable for our customers and end-users
- Together with our teams and our UX designer you identify and pick up frontend stories from the backlog
- You find opportunities for improvement, both user-facing and in the codebase
- You will make sure that in one year our web interface is highly regarded in the Kubernetes community as the most beautiful and desired tool for managing clusters and applications
REQUIREMENTS
- Javascript, TypeScript, and CSS excellence
- Experience with React and Redux
- You value craftsmanship, are curious, willing to learn, and don’t give up easily when things are hard or complicated
- We (and our customers) are currently mainly distributed around Europe (around CET), thus, your main timezone should be somewhere between +/- 2 hours CET to ensure good communication.
- You feel responsible for everything you ship and you pride yourself on clean code, precise documentation, and a perfect product.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with the terminal and bash.
- Experience with continuous integration and a git-based workflow.
- Besides TypeScript, you have programming skills in a language of choice (not necessarily ours, but knowing Go or another statically typed language is a plus) and you already had first touchpoints with Kubernetes, Docker, and microservices.
- Intimate knowledge of the whole web stack; you understand how all the pieces fit together (front-end, database, network layer, etc.) and how they impact the performance of your application.
Job Benefits:
- unlimited holidays
- fair and transparent open salaries
- familiy friendlyness is a must
- choose the time you want to work

- remote work possible

Therefore, we are looking for a Technical Sales Development Representative (m/f/d)
YOUR JOB
- You’re the face of Giant Swarm and lead the initial outreach to targeted enterprise accounts across Central Europe.
- You will generate new qualified opportunities through a mixture of calling, emailing, and social media outreach to schedule meetings with Account Executives and Founders
- As you love tech as much as we do, you know how to speak the language of our target audience and you can engage with them on a personal as well as technical level with the aim of actively engaging them in our own community and events.
- You’re thrilled to dive deep and really understand our product and service. You’ll effectively communicate Giant Swarm’s offering and apply it to each prospect's needs, by speaking their language.
- You will input, update, and maintain daily activity and prospect information in our CRM (Hubspot).
- We’ve only recently started building out our outbound activities and you’ll be our first SDR so you can actively shape this role.
- You’ll be part of our sales and marketing team of seven people, working hand in hand with Franz (our Account Director) and Henning (our CEO). You’ll also connect regularly with our tech-experts to better understand and be the first to know about new features we’ll be offering to our customers.
- You’ll be able to go beyond the scope of your work and join related working groups, depending on your personal preferences.
- You’ll also join talks with our existing customers to get to know and understand our target audience better.
- You’ll have the opportunity to develop into a full revenue-owning sales role over time if this is the path you’d like to go.
REQUIREMENTS
- You need to be a self-confident tech-enthusiast, who learns quickly and is happy to engage right from the start.
- You love the tech world, ideally, you’ve held a tech-focused position before but now want to engage more with other people. Even though you might not know details, you’ve heard about Kubernetes and have a good understanding of what cloud-native means.
- You have 3+ years of outbound sales experience, and having worked within a B2B tech company is a must.
- This is a 100% outbound focused position, so you love engaging people in conversations, you enjoy picking up the phone and calling people you’ve never talked to before. You also enjoy representing Giant Swarm at events (should they happen again in the future ;) )
- ‘Getting things done’ is an important part of your job. Following and creating good and structured workflows to manage our growth is equally important.
- Self-organization is key for this role as you will be working independently from home (or a co-working space), while of course there is a team to always have your back.
- You’re fluent in German and English both orally and in writing. Many of our customers are German but our company language is English so you’ll need both languages on a daily basis.
- We (and our customers) are currently mostly distributed around Europe, therefore you should be located somewhere in Europe.
