This is a U.S. remote, full time position. The position will close on May 11th and interviews are done on a rolling basis. Description

We're looking for a Integration Architect to join a talented and passionate team working on an important and highly visible open source healthcare IT integration project, a joint effort between the U.S. Digital Service and the CDC. As part of a small Agile team, you will be building reusable integration solutions for healthcare entities using state-of-the-art open-source components and services that will help deliver health diagnostic test results and related surveillance and population health data to public health departments and the CDC. You have expertise in leveraging existing and emerging healthcare interoperability standards, such as HL7, to facilitate and improve the exchange of laboratory results and other health record data.

The 'day to day' for you would be to -

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership as part of a small Agile integration team responsible for working with reporting entities (hospitals, labs, etc.) to report diagnostic test results to state departments of health
  • Work with reporting entities to understand the technical challenges they face in reporting test results and devise pragmatic solutions
  • Communicate technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences clearly and concisely
  • Work in an environment that requires both collaborative and independent efforts as needed in a fast-paced environment with like-minded individuals
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily standup meetings, backlog grooming and planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
  • Communicate with technical and non-technical representatives of healthcare entities to determine requirements and solutions specific to the entity

Skills & requirements

  • At least six (6) years of experience developing software
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a software architect
  • At least two (2) years of experience with health IT integration and interoperability
  • Excited to work on a remote distributed team to help testing facilities and states implement timely and accurate disease reporting and surveillance
  • Experienced using REST APIs and SQL
  • Experienced with JavaScript
  • Experienced with data transformation and related tools
  • Experienced with implementing healthcare interoperability and working with data exchange standards such as HL7
  • A self-starter who can work with minimum direction or supervision in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment
  • A strong team contributor who is able to work both independently and in collaboration with other team mates
  • Passionate about open source and promoting open source technologies
  • Oriented towards purpose-driven work
  • Eager to learn new languages, frameworks, and approaches, and able to learn and adapt quickly
  • Comfortable with an Agile delivery approach and mindset

It would be a benefit if you also brought these to the table -

  • Experience working on an Agile team
  • Experience with Mirth Connect/NextGen Connect or other healthcare integration engines
  • Experience with HL7 standards
  • Experience working in or with government agencies
  • Previously contributed to at least one open source project
  • U.S. Veteran
