About the Job
The Lifetime Value Co. is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing team and help us with maintaining and expanding our internal APIs for our front-end clients.
Your experience here will allow you to touch upon and learn a broad spectrum of skills up and down the stack as well as a breadth of technologies. If you're comfortable writing backend APIs, processing raw data, working closely with databases and data warehouses, and discovering cool new technologies then this might be the job for you. You will have a voice in what you build and you'll have the opportunity to prove your ideas. At LTV, we all work closely together across teams so there's no red tape or bureaucracy. What You Will Get to Do
- Work with your team to improve our reports by better combining data that comes from current and new sources
- Rigorously educate yourself with the latest development techniques and best practices
- Proactively anticipate issues and develop solutions
- Clearly communicate solutions to team members both verbally and in written documentation
- Implement new digital technologies and development techniques that help to meet business objectives
What You Bring to the Table
- 5 or more years of back-end development experience oriented to REST APIs
- 5 or more years experience with SQL (especially with Big Data)
- Solid understanding of coding best practices
- Excellent Git proficiency
- UNIX command line tools experience (sort, split, wc, uniq, grep, sed)
- Be independently driven and resourceful to deliver results with minimal direction
- Have an entrepreneurial spirit with a drive to contribute new ideas for future development
- Have the ability to handle multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Pluses
- Experience working in an agile development environment
- Experience programming in Golang
- Experience with column storage (AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery)
- Experience with EMR tools
Super Pluses
- Experience with public record data
- Experience with data pipeline tools such as NiFi, Airflow or others

About the Job
LTV is looking for a Full-Stack PHP Engineer to join our growing team. Your experience here will give you the opportunity to touch upon and learn a broad spectrum of skills up and down the stack as well as a breadth of technologies in any one layer. If you're comfortable developing high-performance web pages, helping with database decisions, debugging complex issues that span multiple systems, learning about infrastructure, and working on cool new products then this might be the job for you. You will have a voice in what you build and you'll have the opportunity to prove your ideas right with data and testing. At LTV, we all work closely together across teams so there's no red tape or bureaucracy. We get things done!
What You Will Get to Do
Our team oversees multiple systems that support LTV's search engine optimization efforts. Our stack consists of many technologies ranging from PHP(Codeigniter), Ruby(Rails), Javascript to database management systems like MySQL, AuroraDB, and many other AWS products. You will also get to work on a multidisciplinary team of SEO experts, designers, and content creators, providing technical insight into the process of delivering new content to our systems.
A software engineer joining our team would be expected to not only handle the normal bug mashing and feature implementation but also work on making our software and processes more developer-friendly. We expect our team members to be vocal about problems they see as we prefer to be proactive rather than reactive. If you're going through a code base and see inefficiencies that need to be attended to, we'll get them on the short-term road map or, in some cases, just work it into an existing sprint depending on what makes the most sense. Our engineering team is a strong proponent of the phrase "leave it better than you found it."
What You Bring to the Table
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or even a Ruby-centric developer bootcamp.
- 2-4 years of professional full-stack coding experience and have a good grasp of PHP.
- Familiarity with PHP frameworks (CodeIgniter, Laravel, Symphony, etc).
- Intermediate level English required.
- Comfortable working with various databases and picking up new technologies.
- Familiarity with Unix-based operating systems and Docker/Kubernetes
- A passion to learn
- Someone who takes the initiative to teach themselves cutting-edge tech.
- Excitement around performance optimizations, experimenting with new features, splitting big applications into smaller apps, and rapidly iterating on a piece of code.

What You'll Get to Do
In our team of developers, every developer has some ownership of a portion of our architecture. There are several different applications, all with a roadmap of features and fixes that you can sink your teeth into. These range from our main Rails application (Rails, Unicorn, Nginx) to data collection and archiving (Redis, ElasticSearch, MySQL, Mongo, etc.). Most of our development is done in Ruby but we do have portions written in other languages as well (PHP, Go, etc).

- Familiarity with Sinatra framework.
- Familiarity with front-end js frameworks like ember.js, react.js, vue.js or angular.js
- Comfortable working with various databases and picking up new technologies.
- Understanding of TDD and BDD best practices.
- Understanding of best practices for code development.
- Familiarity with Unix-based operating systems and Docker/Kubernetes.
- A passion to learn and to impart knowledge to others.
