Where You Come In:

Our Database Reliability Engineering (DRE) team supports Yelp’s database infrastructure, writing the automation that allows us to scale our MySQL and Cassandra clusters to serve hundreds of thousands of queries per second and enabling Yelp to connect users with great local businesses.
You'll be responsible for keeping our database infrastructure up and running smoothly in production. You'll design monitoring and alerting to keep us stable, develop tooling to automatically heal and scale our infrastructure to meet growth and demand, and work closely with developers as they decide which database to use and how to optimize data structures and queries to get the best performance.

We work in both the dev and systems worlds, implementing key parts of the core architecture and supporting devs as they try to do the same. Application backend engineers take on a diverse set of challenges across the engineering org, from building products for business owners to get the most out of Yelp, to taking on some of the most meaningful problems in distributed computing and API design.
Where You Come In:
- Build new features on top of our Service-Oriented Architecture
- Iterate quickly using Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment principles
- Articulate a technical vision and execute it
- Give back by mentoring other engineers and sharing the skills you learn
What it Takes to Succeed:
- Relevant industry experience
- An understanding of and interest in elegant API designs
- Relevant experience in at least one programming language: Python, C, Java, Go, Rust, etc.

Where You Come In:
- Design and build new features to connect with Yelp’s business-owner community
- Be responsible for your own projects from day one, bridging the gap between frontend and backend
- Implement beautiful layouts that work across all of Yelp’s platforms (desktop, mobile browsers, and mobile apps)
- Deploy projects in a Service-Oriented Architecture, all the way from backend services to fully-featured UIs
- Run A/B experiments and dive into the resulting data to look for trends
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams
What it Takes to Succeed:
- Based or willing to relocate within Germany or the UK
- Experience with at least one dynamic language
- Expertise in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS/Sass
- Good understanding of at least one popular server-side framework (Django, Twisted, Rails, Pyramid, CodeIgniter, Play, etc.)
- Desire to learn, share your knowledge, and always improve your engineer-self
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment
- Belief in well-tested code
