We are building project "Sandcastle": a new product for large scale, fine grained authorization (FGA). It uses a globally distributed database and Relationship Based Access control, and is based on Google's Zanzibar paper.

An Authorization service is a critical component. All requests that need to be authorized go through it, so it needs to be reliable and respond with low latency. We are looking for people that excel at designing and implementing highly reliable, performant systems, and enjoy building from scratch. We are going to be building for at least 99.99% reliability and low two digits for p99 latency for reads.

In addition to the challenges of building a world scale distributed system, building from scratch means that: we spend a lot of time talking to customers, generating awareness about the product, writing content and implementing quick starts, SDKs, etc. Think of it as having the breadth and experiences of working at a small startup with the budget and certainty of a late-stage startup.

We are looking for an engineer who enjoys building new products (i.e. going from 0 to 1). These are some of the things we are looking for:

• Parallelizing query execution as much as possible, which is a key benefit of Sandcastle
• Automate and create playbooks for region failover scenarios. What happens if the write region goes down? What happens if a read region goes down?
• Implement observability (metrics, logs, tracing), circuit breakers, performance optimizations and many other things
• Work with our customer community to answer their questions in forums, social media, tickets and chat.

About this specific role

We are building project "Sandcastle": a new product for large scale, fine grained authorization (FGA). It uses a globally distributed database and Relationship Based Access control, and is based on Google's Zanzibar paper.

An Authorization service is a critical component. All requests that need to be authorized go through it, so it needs to be reliable and respond with low latency. We are looking for people that excel at designing and implementing highly reliable, performant systems, and enjoy building from scratch. We are going to be building for at least 99.99% reliability and low two digits for p99 latency at our edge for reads.

In addition to the challenges of building a world scale distributed system, building from scratch means that: we spend a lot of time talking to customers, generating awareness about the product, writing content and implementing quick starts, SDKs, etc. Think of it as having the breadth and experiences of working at a small startup with the budget and certainty of a late-stage startup.

About this specific role

We are building project "Sandcastle": a new product for large scale, fine grained authorization (FGA). It uses a globally distributed database and Relationship Based Access control, and is based on Google's Zanzibar paper.

An Authorization service is a critical component. All requests that need to be authorized go through it, so it needs to be reliable and respond with low latency. What's the opportunity?

As we scale Auth0 and handle billions of logins per month, we also have to deal with billions of attacks. Almost 40% of our traffic are bots trying to get access to our customers accounts and our job is to not let that happen.

• Provide guidance to engineering teams to effectively operate on a container-based platform.
• Be on-call for all services and components owned by the Platform team.

The Tooling Team is part of the Customer Success - Technical Field Solutions Team (TFS). TFS is responsible for the continuous innovation of the content, tooling, and approaches that enable the CS organization to scale effectively while delivering consistent exceptional experiences. The Tooling team is specifically responsible for building the tooling and services that support the entire field team.

Responsibilities

• Drive new technical tools and new features of existing tools, both internal and external that are functional, flexible, simple, and intuitive.
• Participate in roadmaps, strategies and vision planning discussions.

The Engineering Enablement Domain, focuses on solving hard foundational engineering problems, to enable Auth0 to move fast with confidence. We create and offer a set of building blocks and abstractions on top of our Platform, that allow the product Engineers to develop faster. We have several teams that go from building Cloud Agnostic libraries, shared rate limiting, and DB access services, frameworks and Libraries for Security Enablement to modern SRE and SDET work.

This specific position focuses on hiring for the “Foundations” team where we work to create abstractions to shared problems such as Logging, rate limiting, storing on different cloud providers, and managing shared components (e.g. async garbage collector) and services in the company. We work with NodeJS ( Javascript or Typescript), and a hint of Go.
