What a day is like.
You will be working with other engineers in a global environment to define and create the best tools for moving code from source to production. Small changes and optimizations have a huge impact since it affects all engineers in Tradeshift.
On a daily basis you will be writing code covered by tests, with an open source like workflow, using forks and pull requests. You will work with technologies like Go, Bash, Puppet, Groovy and be spearheading technologies like Kubernetes, Prometheus, Docker and using supporting tools like Datadog, Sentry, or Splunk.
You will be forming opinions around cloud native technologies and how we can leverage them to lift the productivity even higher in Tradeshift.
You will brainstorm with the team on technical architecture or design options, implementation alternatives and help solve day to day issues in a collaborative effort.
Qualifications
You're perfect for this role if you:
- Have 8+ years of relevant professional experience
- Have a deep understanding and 4+ years of experience programming in languages like Java or Go
- Have a deep understanding and practice in developing REST-based microservices architectures
- Know how to build resilient architectures, work with eventual consistency and distributed transaction patterns
- Have opinions on how the perfect SDLC would look like
- Love cloud native technologies
- Been developing Kubernetes operators
- Used to build applications on top of Docker, Kubernetes and AWS
- Keen to automate tests and practice CI/CD
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent
Nice-to-have skills and experience:
- Projects done in other languages like Typescript, Scala or Groovy
- Experience in SRE related activities like adding telemetry to code and debugging distributed systems

This Software Engineer will be responsible for the design and implementation of test systems capable of evaluating product performance and correctness in a Windows environment. Other OS environments, such as OS/X and Linux, to follow. This engineer will work as a part of a feature development team with the goal of designing testability into the product during feature implementation. This engineer will design and implement test systems capable of interacting with a product that runs as a Windows service and has no user interface. Extensive integration skills will be necessary to instigate the appropriate operations in the environment OS and evaluate telemetry being sent over the network to back end servers in the cloud as a result of those operations. This engineer will be required to gain intimate knowledge of our product's capabilities and limitations, and design and implement test software to validate those capabilities and measure the product's limitations. This engineer would be responsible for all the above being applied to an automated build environment using continuous integration and the production of reporting that describes the results of the testing.
What you will do:
- Implement automated test suites to ensure production ready software
- Construct CI/CD pipelines that can automate the process of SCM checkout, building and automated tests of our software
- Be responsible for iterating on solutions quickly and effectively in a software release production environment
What you need:
- Experience coding in C++.
- Experience in Scripting in the Microsoft Windows environment using PowerShell, Windows Batch scripting, Python or VB scripting
- Comfortable working on specific goals independently with little or no direction.
- Experience with bootstrapping and maintaining a CI/CD system such as Jenkins or Gitlab
- Strong experience with a Version control system such as Git.
A candidate with these additional skills and experiences is preferred:
- Expertise in setting up and maintaining complicated test environments in a fault tolerant and repeatable manner.
- Expertise in integrating with applications under test that have no visible interface.
- Experience in writing test code that interfaces directly with product code written in C++.
- Working knowledge of managing and provisioning cloud resources in either GCP, AWS or Azure using their command line SDK.
- Expertise in some form of automated fault injection.

The Principal Cloud Architect is a domain expert who applies broad technical skills with deep industry knowledge and business acumen. Leads technical solutions that promote business strategy goals by driving digital transformation, cloud adoption, optimization and automation. The Principal Cloud Architect is a subject matter expert in one or more categories that may include: solutions architecture, systems integration, business capability planning, data and information, security, cloud platforms, mobile, and analytics. With a strong blend of leadership and technical skills, the Principal Cloud Architect uses a consultative approach to drive the planning, designing, development, and application of cloud architecture to achieve business strategies and transformations. The Principal Cloud Architect possesses a broad understanding of the enterprise, the business, current capabilities and future needs, business initiatives and technology industry trends. They also provide counsel to senior leadership and teams.
What You Will Do
- Leads the development, tailoring, and enhancement of cloud frameworks, methods, and tools to ensure the alignment and integration of cloud processes and deliverables with those of other architecture and SDLC disciplines
- Leads the development of cloud transformation communications and education materials for use with business and technical stakeholders and partners
- Provides thought leadership in the development and execution of enterprise and domain-specific IT strategies, standards, and guidelines. The Enterprise Cloud Architect engages in business strategy development to identify new business capability and technology-driven opportunities to ensure alignment with a cloud-first strategy
- Defines operating models to exploit new capabilities, automation, and standardization and supports due diligence on merger, acquisition, strategic partnership, and investment activities of the enterprise
- Provides oversight and leadership for development, review, approval, and maintenance of cloud architecture blueprints and roadmap as well as cloud migration programs
- Analyzes pain points and opportunities that transcend business areas and propose enterprise strategies or solutions
- Ensures the quality of reusable architecture patterns and reference models that directly support the engineering, automation, and instrumentation processes

- Proficiency in architectural principles of SaaS, PaaS, multitenancy and multi-tiered infrastructures
- Experience with cloud-based technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience managing remote teams
- Experience managing multi-million dollar budgets
- Experience with managing various compliance standards (HIPAA, FISMA, GDPR, FedRAMP)
Desired Experience
- Experience with DHIS2 or other health information software used in LMIC
