About the opportunity
This role falls within our growing DevOps organization, responsible for building and supporting our products from a software perspective. DevOps engineers are responsible for maintaining the uptime of services and keeping Flock production systems running smoothly. They also work on our build, deploy, metrics, alerting, and logging tooling and infrastructure. They work with other engineers to ensure the system is capable of handling significant growth as we scale over time. This role will specifically support our Machine Learning organization and will be geared toward building, deploying, codifying the infrastructure, build metrics, and alerting for ML projects and systems.
Some challenges you’ll tackle
- Make sure the system is running and in line with internal SLIs and SLOs
- Collaborate with Platform, Machine Learning, and Hardware teams on multifaceted projects that interact with our system
- Manage the infrastructure for ML projects and systems
- Assess new technologies as needed, balancing technical needs and business impact
- Refine our CI/CD process, improving the rate we can deliver new code to production in a reliable and efficient manner
- Collaborate on creating a robust monitoring platform for our services and their underlying infrastructure, aiming to alert on symptoms and not outages
- Be part of an on-call process to resolve availability incidents and work towards preventing these incidents from ever happening
- Use best practices when creating and managing AWS resources (e.g. security groups, VPCs)

The Platform team builds cross-team tooling and services that empower our Specialist and Product teams to deliver customer value efficiently and with high quality.
The engineering department is going through significant growth and there are opportunities for you to help shape the culture and technology moving forward.
What you’ll be doing:
- Manage a high performing & secure cloud environment
- Owning major parts of the system, designing and delivering quality stable solutions
- Developing clean, maintainable code that is suitable for continuous integration and deployment, following best practices and DevOps/Software guidelines
- Collaborating as part of a cross-functional agile team
- Improve our platform by learning and implementing new technologies
- Build & manage different tools to facilitate the way different teams use our platform
- Automate whenever possible so it is easy to deploy to multiple environments & recover
- Increase the visibility of the different services
- Work with different teams to understand how to better use our platform
- Participate on a fun team that loves learning together & helping each other
- Owning the code you and your team build, which means supporting debugging, monitoring and alerting in the production
What you’ll bring:
- 2+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer
- A passion for learning every day
- A desire to work with the latest technologies such as Kubernetes and others
- Experience working with configuration as code and CI/CD
- Coding experience in any language
- Experience working with Cloud environments & Containers
- A desire to make deployment & automation simple
- Experience with monitoring & logging
- Good listener skills & the ability to troubleshoot any problems with other teams
- A “You build it, you own it!” mentality
It would be great to bring, but is not required to have:
- Experience working with IaC, e.g. CloudFormation
- Experience with Node.js and/or Typescript
- A background in software development
